At St Paul’s, students engage in integrated, inquiry-based units of work each year to explore essential ideas from the disciplines of History, Geography and Economics. These units encourage curiosity, questioning and investigation, while drawing on knowledge and skills from multiple curriculum areas. Science is taught both within inquiry units and through stand-alone investigations, allowing students to develop a strong understanding of scientific concepts and processes.

Collaboration is at the heart of our inquiry approach. Students work together in pairs, small groups and whole-class discussions to share ideas, solve problems and build on one another’s thinking. This not only strengthens their knowledge but also fosters communication, teamwork and critical thinking skills.

Our program is also designed to develop the Victorian Capabilities — Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical Understanding, Intercultural Understanding and Personal and Social Capability. Through authentic, real-world learning experiences, students learn to think deeply, act responsibly, appreciate diversity and develop resilience and independence. By integrating these capabilities, we ensure that children are not only gaining subject knowledge but are also becoming thoughtful, responsible and active citizens in a rapidly changing world.
