Mathematics

At St Paul’s, we teach the five areas of Mathematics from Year Prep to Year 6, in alignment with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0. These areas include Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Chance and Data.

We provide a balanced curriculum that fosters both conceptual understanding and practical application. Instruction is guided by our Vision for Learning, with an emphasis on clear, engaging lessons and daily reviews to reinforce and consolidate concepts throughout the year.

This consistent approach supports student growth by developing strong mathematical foundations, while also nurturing confidence and a love for learning. By focusing on real-world connections and hands-on learning, we ensure that Mathematics is a meaningful and enjoyable experience for all students.

At St Paul’s, we recognise that every child learns differently. Our Mathematics program is differentiated to ensure all students are both supported and challenged at their point of need. Ongoing assessment is used to guide our teaching, helping us to identify where each child is in their learning and what they need next. Students who require additional support are given targeted strategies and guidance to build their skills and confidence, while those ready for extension are offered opportunities to think critically, apply knowledge in complex ways and deepen their mathematical reasoning. Through this approach, every student is encouraged to reach their full potential as capable and confident learners of Mathematics.
