Religious Education

At St Paul’s, Religious Education is at the heart of our curriculum and daily life. Guided by the MACS Religious Education Curriculum Framework, we support students in developing a deep understanding of the Catholic faith and how it is lived out in today’s world. Through scripture, prayer, liturgy and social justice initiatives, students are encouraged to grow in their relationship with God and to live out the Gospel values of love, respect, compassion and service.

Our Religious Education program is taught with the same academic rigour as other learning areas, with clear goals, assessment and opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding. It provides opportunities for students to wonder, question and explore their faith, while also learning about other faith traditions to promote inclusion and respect. In partnership with families and the parish, we aim to nurture students who are spiritually aware, socially responsible and confident in their identity as people of faith and hope.

As we journey together, we also embrace the spirit of the Year of Jubilee, a special time of renewal, hope and celebration in the life of the Church. This invites our school community to reflect on God’s mercy, strengthen our commitment to justice and joyfully live out the Gospel in our world today.

Christian Meditation

At St Paul’s, we begin each school day with Christian Meditation as a whole school community. This practice provides students and staff with a quiet and prayerful space to be still, focus on God’s presence, and prepare their hearts and minds for the day ahead. By sitting in silence and repeating a sacred word or mantra, students learn to pause, centre themselves, and grow in their spiritual awareness. Christian Meditation nurtures calmness, reflection, and connection with God, helping to ground our daily learning and interactions in faith.

Sacraments at St Paul's

The celebration and preparation of the Sacraments are central to the Catholic identity of St Paul’s. We work closely with families and the parish to ensure students are supported on their faith journey. Each Sacrament is an important milestone, marking a deepening relationship with God and the Catholic community.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Students in Year 3 prepare for and celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Through class learning and family involvement, students reflect on forgiveness, making good choices and God’s unconditional love. This Sacrament helps children understand the importance of saying sorry, making amends and seeking God’s grace in their daily lives.

Sacrament of Eucharist (First Communion)

In Year 4, students are invited to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time. The program helps students deepen their understanding of the Mass and the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. This is a joyful celebration where children are welcomed to the Lord’s table and strengthened in their faith community.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Students in Year 6 prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation, completing their initiation into the Catholic Church. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, students explore the gifts and fruits of the Spirit, learning how these empower them to live their faith with courage, service and commitment. Confirmation is a significant step as students take greater responsibility for their faith journey and witness to Christ in their lives.
